Carmen D’Apollonio
Carmen D’Apollonio (b. 1974) is a ceramic artist and designer based between Los Angeles and Switzerland. Her work explores the expressive potential of clay through forms that blur function and sculpture. A former collaborator of Urs Fischer, she shifted from fashion to a clay-based practice defined by hand-built construction, irregular surfaces, and humor. Her lamps, stools, and vessels convey gesture, imperfection, and anthropomorphic character, merging spontaneity with emotional presence. Working in clay with glaze and patina finishes, she positions ceramics within contemporary collectible design while preserving its intimacy. Represented by Friedman Benda, her works appear in design museums and private collections worldwide.
