Choi Byung-Hoon
Choi Byung-Hoon (b. 1952) is a leading figure in contemporary Korean design, merging craft traditions, Zen philosophy, and monumental form. Based in Seoul and Tongyeong, he works with basalt, granite, wood, and bronze to create benches and tables that serve as meditative anchors rather than functional furniture. His pieces evoke eroded landscapes and ancient monuments, balancing stillness and tension while treating nature as both subject and collaborator. Through raw surfaces and precise voids, he redefines material and scale. His Stone Furniture Series and monolithic works are held by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Korea) and international collections.
