Philippe Starck
Philippe Starck (b. 1949) is a French designer whose work spans industrial products, interiors, architecture, and transportation. Based in Paris, he rose to prominence in the 1980s after designing apartments at the Élysée Palace and went on to redefine everyday design through objects that combine humor, innovation, and sculptural clarity. His Juicy Salif citrus squeezer for Alessi (1990) and Louis Ghost chair for Kartell (2002) became icons of accessible, “democratic” design. From the Royalton and Delano hotels to lighting for Flos and yachts for private clients, Starck’s creations blur the line between high design and mass culture. His work is represented in MoMA, the Centre Pompidou, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
