Poul Kjærholm
Poul Kjærholm (1980–1929) was a Danish designer who brought architectural precision and poetic restraint to modern furniture. Trained as a cabinetmaker, he broke from Denmark’s wood tradition, elevating steel as a noble material in dialogue with leather, cane, and stone. A professor at the Royal Danish Academy, he shaped a generation of makers devoted to structural clarity and proportion. His PK22, PK24, and PK80 exemplify balance between strength and sensual tactility. Awarded the Lunning Prize and two Milan Triennale Grand Prix, Kjærholm’s work is held in MoMA, the V&A, the National Museum of Art in Oslo, and the Danish Design Museum.
