Maquette 208 / Paper Chair is a work by Faye Toogood from 2020, part of her collection “Assemblage 6: Unlearning.” For this series, Toogood set aside her usual design process and started again from basic principles, building small, rough models from studio materials such as crumpled paper and masking tape. These maquettes were then scaled up to full size and cast, keeping every fold and crease of the original model. Here a paper model becomes a chair in cast aluminum finished with acrylic paint, so a quick, instinctive sketch is preserved as a solid, lasting object.
