The afterimage of beginning 07-244 sculptural chair comes from Choi Byung-Hoon’s best known series, which he has developed since the late 1980s. The piece joins a form of laminated walnut, finished in black, with a base of black granite, setting a shaped, manufactured surface against natural stone. Choi describes the “afterimage” as “a mysterious encounter in the imagination with the world I have not experienced.” His work draws on the calm and restraint of traditional Korean aesthetics, combining the natural world with a meditative state and placing each piece between sculpture and furniture.
