Mound II is a work by Faye Toogood from 2022, carved by hand from solid English oak. Like Barrow, Cairn and Hill, its title comes from the British landscape, and its form draws on ancient earthworks and the ground beneath them. Toogood first models each form in clay, then carves it from a block of wood, slowly revealing the shape much like an excavation. As she puts it, “Material does not merely realise the form. It lends it an age.”
