Roly-Poly Chair / Moon is a version of Faye Toogood’s best known design, first introduced in 2014. The chair’s deep, rounded seat rests on four thick, cylindrical legs, a simple and playful form inspired by the birth of her first child. In 2016 Toogood recast the design in new materials, each named after an element. For Moon, the chair is sand cast in bronze and finished with silver nitrate, which gives the surface its soft grey, mottled patina. The result turns an icon of contemporary design into a heavy, collectible object that reads as both furniture and sculpture.
