Spiritual Fruit is a striking biomorphic ash wood sculpture that showcases Wendell Castle’s signature stack-lamination technique through fluid, interlocking organic loops and negative voids. The piece mimics the evolution of an exotic seed pod, using meticulously sanded contours to create the illusion of a supple, pliable ribbon frozen in space. By exposing the wood’s natural topographic grain lines across a seamless form. This purely autonomous sculpture strips away functional utility to focus entirely on the playful boundaries of mass, space, and volume.
