Tree 8 is part of Andrea Branzi’s Trees series from 2010, first shown in New York in 2012. The piece places natural birch trunks inside a patinated aluminum shelving structure, so the raw wood and the metal grid form one piece of furniture. Birch has been part of Branzi’s work since his Animali Domestici collection of 1985, where untreated branches first entered the domestic interior. The series reflects his view that “today there no longer exists any distance between the natural world and the artificial world.”
