ZAYED INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS THE MAIN AIRPORT OF ABU DHABI, KNOWN FOR ITS MODERN DESIGN AND STRATEGIC INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS
For the Abu Dhabi edition of NOMAD, The A/P Room inhabits the iconic Terminal 1 of Zayed International Airport a landmark of modernist architecture designed by Paul Andreu in the late 1970s. Reactivated as a space of cultural transit, the terminal becomes a threshold: a site between worlds, where architecture, design, and memory intersect. Conceived as a curatorial platform for experimental design emerging from the region and resonating internationally, its vocation is also to represent and connect international artists and designers within the Middle Eastern context, fostering dialogues that expand beyond borders while remaining deeply anchored in place. The A/P Room extends its dialogue from Dubai’s vibrant creative landscape into a broader field of exchange.
ZAYED INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS THE MAIN AIRPORT OF ABU DHABI, KNOWN FOR ITS MODERN DESIGN AND STRATEGIC INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS
Terminal 1, Zayed International Airport—a landmark of regional modernism designed in the late 1970s by Paul Andreu, the celebrated architect of Paris’ Charles de Gaulle. Closed to the public for years, the terminal will be reimagined by NOMAD in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism—Abu Dhabi.
Engaging with Andreu’s architecture its suspended vaults, radiant skylights, and echoes of former flight paths the presentation unfolds as a meditation on movement: “between departure and arrival, stillness and momentum, belonging and elsewhere”
